Many of you rightly consider team building exercises as an important part of the success of your company.  Perhaps you have hired outside consulting firms to advise you on this subject.  Sometimes management is concerned about using sports for team building, but we have found golf to be an excellent venue, even for the non-golfers on your team.

Here’s how it works.  Your teams will consist of people with varying golfing skills, just as they have various business skills.  To level the playing field, you play a scramble, where everyone hits, and the team decides on the best shot. Although you probably won’t use a non-player’s drive, you would be amazed at how much they can help around the green chipping and putting.  Even showing the line on a putt can be a great help, and if they sink a long one that makes the difference for the team, there is an unexpected sense of satisfaction.  We suggest you put at least one golfer in each group who plays golf, and set a maximum number of strokes per hole (usually a double bogey).  We even have extra clubs if you need them.

Once you have announced the event, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the positive buzz among the employees.  Make sure the non-golfers understand that this is a fun event, with lots of prizes for longest drive, closest to the pin, as well as fun prizes for the shortest drive.  Make it clear that no one will be counting on them to carry the team.  We suggest other awards such as blaze orange caps for the team that spent the most time in the woods, gift certificates for the tackiest golf outfits, etc. After all, this is a team building exercise, not a tournament.

We strongly believe that a golf-based team building exercise is a cost-effective avenue for providing teamwork reinforcement.  The relationships shared on the golf course can transfer to the job site, creating a more efficient working place. And, it’s really fun!  We have successfully worked with businesses to create a fun, exciting team building event here at Stone Mountain Golf Club, in a gorgeous setting with incredible views, and on a well-kept course with fantastic greens.  You will not be pushed or criticized for a lack of playing ability on our course.  This will be a laid-back relaxing event, with most companies choosing to continue the event with a cookout on our beautiful deck.  Everyone can share the perfect ending to a fun day with a view of the Blue Ridge and Little Grandfather Mountain.   We can even provide the gift certificates for the prizes.

Please call Bruce at (336) 957-4422 or check us out at www.stonemountainclub.com.   We’re known as a friendly bunch who will bend over backwards to make your tournament venue a perfect day.  Thanks for taking the time to consider us, and remember, you are always welcome at Stone Mountain Golf Club.
